Copyright Plus

Copyright Plus is a policy proposal that is based on not only upholding Australia's copyright protections but developing further protections for individual artists and the creative arts sector. Copyright Plus supports copyright licensing, but recognises that many creators don’t end up with the legal power to control how their works are used, or receive a fair price. Relying on copyright alone will centralise bargaining power in large media organisations, record labels and other big  copyright holders who, along with AI companies will determine how artists get paid. Instead we propose a fair pay scheme controlled by artist groups with payments that recognize the market disruption caused by AI to artists who have to compete with licensed and unauthorized AI- generated works. Copyright plus also provides powerful provisions that assist creators to identify and control the distribution of AI created content they did not consent to, and a cultural fund that would invest in artists and public good arts infrastructures.
